Batfly gave me the idea to do this....
I have not built this yet, just mocked it up in 3D. If you want my measurements on this, let me know and I will put something together. I plan on building this later this month or the first of next month.
I plan on displaying this on a motion sensor with a strobe attached to the sensor as well.
If you build it, post it with results etc...

I think you modeled the motor linkage wrong.
you need two linkages, a short one attached to the motor shaft, and a long one (Like shown) between the short one and the arms.
The short linkage is required so that the motor can spin completely 360 degree.- Brad

I was just going to say the same thing. You need a small crank arm on the motor and the longer arm attached to the end of that. Did you do the design in Google sketchup?
EDIT: Meyers Madness... looking great! Can't wait to see it finished! I've been thinking about building one of these.Xpendable

Good job Meyers!
That was just a mock up, not a finished product. I intend on using a wiper motor that comes with the arm. Thanks for pointing it out for people who do not know about that though.

What kind of motor do you need for this? I picked up 2 disco motors. One is running an FCG. Just wondering if this will have enough torque to do this. If so, this could be a good project for it.

Looking good so far. Now that you have the mechanics built, time to give it a head and arms.

you forgot the hinges on the elbows of the arms. i use just a wiper motor. looking good.

Nice design , but , regretffully , I don't think it will work . Reason - the darker PURPLE extensions will bind up into the lighter purple extensions when that side arm is in the OUT REACH position.
Nice attempt though . Also with no hinges on the blue part ( last part where the hands would be connected to ) where the light purple and dark purple meet , the arms will not move with the two pivot points
on the pink part .
Night night. Sleep tight . Hope the monsters under your bed don't bite.
