OK guys, I've run out of patience with the men at home about this...time to ask the experts! I need a high torque LOW speed motor. My project is a motor in a wooden box, that's painted like a monument. The motor will turn a light weight platform with four ghosts on it. There will be a ghost at each point of the compass on the platform. They will be extremely light weight ghosts that will appear to be playing "Ring around the Rosie". This was supposed to be an easy project but as usual . . .
So I beg for your mercy and intelligence.
Thank you!
Aunt Sissy

Are you attaching the motor to the platform or are you putting on wheel on the motor to drive the platform, with the platform on a lazy susan. The second method requires less torque

If you don't want to spend too much, salvage an old can opener, those motors are low RPM and high torque.

Found something on eBay that might help:
Gear Motors 6 RPM A3D0-0060 6 RPM - eBay (item 220424855998 end time Jun-06-09 08:45:40 PDT)
AC (just add wire and plug), 6 rpm, okay torque.
Ends soon though.
Here's a selection from Servo City - all DC, good torque.

I could be wrong, but I think those are not constant duty.
I have a similar one on my pirate row boat, if I run it constantly it over heats and shuts down.
I started setting up my pirate area with a controller so that the row boat only rows for a short time.- Brad

bb - do you mean the DC gearmotors from Servo City? I haven't purchased from them, so I have no idea.
The one on eBay...I have an AC gearmotor that is built similar to that one, but not the same make (the model number pulls up some stats, but found nothing on duty cycle) - the one I have will run for long duration without heating up very much, so I think it's okay for continuous duty.
Then again, they're not the same motor, so no telling.Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...
