Thread: Groundbreaker question

Hey guys, and gals,
I only have two groundbreakers right now and I am in the slow process (for me) of making a few more. I know alot of people use a wooden base for theirs, I am currently using pvc and rebar to stick mine to the ground. Thats the same method I use with my tombstones. My yard is slightly sloped and I find that they stick where they are put pretty well.

Question is, are there any advantages of the wooden base set up over the pvc and rebar set up? My two concerns were that the wood adds weight and bulk for storage and that the GB might tip over, also the wood might be visible unless alot of leaves are used (which I will do anyway).

Any thoughts would be great, just checking if Im missing something before I build these bad boys.

The bad part about would id that it rots. I have to replace wooden bases
on coffins and crates every two years.

Not sure if you are going to use as a static or moving prop, but it does'nt really matter. I always use spray on polyurethane as a final finish. Yes it will make it heavier but more solid. Taking in that you live on a hill, I would suggest wood. I have several props that the bases for them are wood with a nice coat of the polyurethane and work just fine. I have noticed over the years, It is somewhat windy here in Florida on Halloween night and PVC just wont do it for the weight factor. Falling over is usually the problem. Hope this helps.

I have all my groundbreakers (actually, all my lawn props in general) in the pvc/rebar setup. It works great for me.
