I've been throwing around the idea of putting on a 3-4 day workshop for home haunters, one in which many of the questions asked in this forum would be addressed. It would include lecture, as well as hands on demonstrations. The workshop would also have a "make it - take it home" component to it. Does this sound like something worth pursuing?

    Any input would be great,

    Jim

    bhsfx,

Your idea is probablly a good one but I will tell you a good place to get nibbles on this info is in the "Haunts, Gatherings & Conventions" section of the board. Thats where most of the "Make-n-Takes" & workshops are listed. Be sure where you post it that the title includes your location. ALso sometimes I'll post on the "General Halloween" board so people will know there is a workshop listed in the Gatherings section & direct them to go there for all the info.

We started listing our get togethers like that & now we have about 12-14 people that come to the get togethers.

I think it's a great idea. Do you know any other haunters in your neck of the woods that would be interested? I think you'd need to get a couple more "lecturers" or seminar leaders for the make and takes so as not to burn yourself out... Oh yeah, I also recommend doing something simple and inexpensive for the first get together, so that people aren't turned off by the costs...

    Have fun with it!!

For me, it would really depend upon just what the topics are.
I could always use more help with my faux finishes, and I love to try new corpsifiying techniques, but I just wouldn't be interested in... say a lecture and demo on face-painting.

If you could be a bit more specific on the subjects and the level of difficulty, such as "an intro to foam carving", or a lecture on "Advanced walk-through design", it might help people determine if they would like to attend. It would for me at least.

I also think 3-4 days is too long. It would require taking time off from work to attend, and many people will have a problem with that. I could consider going to a Saturday evening, Sunday morning type class, as that would let me work and allow time for travel.

Perhaps a series of workshops, each one a separate study, so that if one or more were missed, it wouldn't cause any problems. That would also allow people to attend only the ones that truly interest them.

I would say your first step is definitely going to be figuring out if you can get enough people to attend. Personally I would go to something for a day if it was in the Minnesota area. On the other hand, you could do a webinar or a series of webinars. I would totally be down for that.
