Today, I found flicker bulbs at my local Lowe's for $0.97 a 2-pack or $7.97 for a 10 bulb string. I'm not sure about other areas, but around here they were $3.99 and up in mid October...

I'm stocked up for next year now!

Was this for the "standard" base bulb? Or the smaller one?

Yes, they are the small base. I haven't been able to find any standard base flicker bulbs locally.

I have seen those too at Lowes. Yes those bulbs have the candelabra E12 base which is what it is called and it is to small. You need to be looking for the ones with bases called Intermediate E17 bases. Your standard house hold bulb uses what is called a Medium Base E26 and those would be to big.
