Here he is, The thing from the tar pit... Now I just wish I had a tar pit......
He was a colthes making dummy for toddlers that I dyed black, added eyes and teeth, then covered in black poly-vinyl to give it that gooey look. Hope you like.....

It's convincing enough that I'm worried about your carpet getting tar on it!!
If you want a tar pit, perhaps you could take some thin plywood or other thin, stiff material, cut it into an irregular shape (like a pool of tar), and then spray paint some high-gloss black spray paint all over it...lay it on the ground, and stand that thing in the center...or at the edge...
Agreed on the creepy though - those eyes...Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...
2009 photos and 2008 photos ...uhmmm...and what I have evolving...

You want a tar pit? I had this idea last year and it worked out great. Get a mat for under an office chair. Cut it to the design you want and then use krylon paint to get the color your after. I painted a big blood splatter. You can use the tar paint/ black and you have an instant tar pit! The mats are pretty cheap too.

He reminds me of the mud/gingerbread boy from The Brother's Grimm movie.

funny you should say that... I was heavily influenced by both the tar baby AND the Brothers Grimm movie.

How about a little wading pool? Either inflatable or hard plastic. Those are also good for mini-swamps.
