Looking to do a prop behind my window. I have seen someone else do it with a certain type of fabric that is black until a light comes on, then the prop is seen. I have a great window on the left side of my porch which ould be great for this.

Any sort of thin material would work, but you could google "fabric scrim" or "theater scrim" and see where that takes you:

Scrims have also seen extensive use in theatre, Sharktooth scrim, is the more proper term to describe it, where they are often used for special effects. In theater a scrim can refer to any such thin screen, and are made out of a wide variety of materials. The advantage of scrims is that when lit from the front they can appear opaque to the audience, until a quick change in stage lighting (lighting from behind) makes them almost fully transparent.

You could check out a fabric store and buy a yard of fabric that you think might work and run a lighting test on it at home.
