Here is my untried idea for the owner of the no hole house. A few years back we got a plastic and magnet hocky puck circle thing for holding up chrystals on the glass for the sun to hit. You put the plasitc/magnet puck on the outside of the glass and the hook plastic magent on the inside. Presto hook in the middle of window. Held for years. Wonder if the same thing could be done with foam?washer on foam and take an earth magent on inside of glass. Will post picture of puck if I find it around here.

My friends house had a sheet of plywood with a 2x4 on the top, the 2x4 hung on the top ledge of the window. No screws or holes and gives the wanted effect.

We live in a house that's on the national register for monuments. So we can't make any holes. I saw a tutorial about magnets but we dont have any metal frames. Thought the velcro might be a good idea till you mentioned it sticking just as bad as double sided tape.
Just look at the bottom of my pic you can see the screws. They elevate the frame to wedge against the header.

Yubney, I looked at your pic for a good 5 minutes and even visited your albums...nice tombstones and coffin by the way...but I"m not seeing any screws.
This is our house. The four lower windows on the right side are what I want to cover with boards.

They seem similar to Yubney's so a wedge should work, once I figure out how and where to wedge

Yeah it's hard to see what I'm talking about. Tell you what tomorrow I will put one back up and take some detailed pics that should help.
