I found this item whilst browsing DJ lighting on Ebay.

These might be useful to safely fake a mad scientist scene.

Sound Activated neon

I thought about rigging a blue one up to a sound source of electrical arcing.

I have a light/colour organ, but I use that for thunder and lightning.

Anyone seen or used one of these?

I have. They are very small, thin, and fragile. The pictures are highly blown up. They can be powered up with a plug or usb connection. Sound sesitivity is adjustable and can pick up low noise quite well. I purchased 2 of them to go with my DJ lighting, but they were as thick as copper wire and it was wasn't too much more than 12" tall (with the base).

Thanks for the info, I had reviewed the Ebay listing and came to a similiar conclusion. They still might have their uses, but I'd probably only get them if I could get them from a store to see them in use etc.
