Hey all! I'm new to the forum, and this was my first post. I tried to post it yesterday, but it never went through. I'm looking to display a countdown to the start of my haunt (in days, hours, minutes) on an LCD montior and put it outside. Now I have an old junky LCD I can do this with, but I'd like to somehow make it "outside-proof." The place where I want to put it is under an overhang, so it wouldn't see much rain unless the wind was blowing right. Has anyone every tired anything like this? I was considering just a really clear plastic bag to put over it, but I dunno how great that'll work. I'm just looking for ideas, so any help you guys can provide would be great! Thanks guys!
P.S. - I LOVE this forum! I've been looking for one like this forever!! My F5 key is gonna wear out from all the refreshing!!! :-)

I think I would put it inside in a window rather than expose it to the elements. wraping it in a plastic bag would likely cause it to over heat.

I agree. Not outside.
Michaels has a ghost holding a pumpkin countdown clock on sale right now.
Just throwing it out there.......

Not outside. NO PLASTIC!!! WILL overheat, and may cause a fire!! If you're hell-bent on putting it outside, build a plexi-glass enclosure, and drill a few holes in it on the sides for ventilation...seal the enclosure with silcone...still not a good idea to put out in dampness and humidity tho.....

Yeah, I failed to think about the heat situation! I guess I'll either try putting it in a window, or just put it out when it's not raining and pull it in every night.

I would build some sort of box that is sealed up on the top and sides, with plexiglas on the front and fans in the bottom (One blowing and one sucking) you may need to build some sort of plenum duct on the one blowing to have it grab the hot air at the top of the enclosure and blow it out the bottom.
The main problem I think you will have with using it for a countdown sign is that the low brightness of the LCD will probally only be able to be seen at night. and putting the plexiglas in front of the screen only makes the brightness problem worse.- Brad

There is also the issue of moisture- whether from the atmosphere or from your yard sprinklers- water + electricity = bad!
Also, if it looks nice enough someone might decide one late night that it should no longer be yours...
