My 2nd grader has school Halloween party every year....of course I participate and help, however my props are not appropriate, as they are either "too delicate" or too dangerous,
- coffin w/ rattling door is a potential pinch hazard
- fog machines may set off fire alarms
- buble machines may make the floors slippery
- etc.
Also the kids love to touch and get up close w/ things...anyone have any good "safe" ideas for static and non-static props that we could use/build?
Keep in mind need to keep costs down and time is short.

We have a homemade spider victim that actually held up pretty good during our Halloween party when my son was in 2nd grade two years ago. Also, the kids really enjoyed scaring the drop-down spider we bought for like $9.00 at Walgreens. They would stand under it and yell (it was sound-activated) and then run screaming when it would drop.
The simpler stuff actually works quite well with little people. We bought a spirit ball and they weren't interested. They had more fun with the rubber toads, bats, etc. then with the spirit ball. If you can dress up and be a "static" prop yourself, that helps as well. We had a few big kids helping at our party and they wouldn't move until someone came up to them. Then they would just jerk a little and send the kids scurrying. They appreciated that more than any high-tech gadget.
Good luck and remember to have fun! Sometimes we forget...."He has my father's eyes."
"Gomez, take those out of his mouth!"

Have you ever thought about Halloween Projectors? These can be used indoor or outdoor and project halloween images onto any flat surface. They can project moving or stationary images or an animated color movie.
Check them out at Holiday Projectors

Those are great ideas - I have a an old dropping spider and I planned on making a cocoon victim based on NewbieHaunter's post.
I also think Michaels's is selling the dropping spider for about $10, and they are always running a 50% coupon online or in the paper...
Thank you again.________________________________________
