    how can you figure out which end is - and which end is + on
    a 12v wall wart?

    Use a voltmeter and measure the output of the wall wart when it is plugged in the wall with no device on the output. You should see a positive voltage. If you measure a negative voltage, reverse the leads.

    Use CAUTION! You could get shocked if you touch the bare wires.
