Being that royal icing is made of powdered sugar won't it be something that ants and other bugs might find appealing too? I like the spackle idea. I'm wondering if caulk would stay soft or take too long to dry.
Love to see your cake when it's done.

ok guys i have not started on this project yet because i too was thinking that bugs might find it attractive with royal icing and i need this prop to last for other years so MOST CERTAIN when i'll store this the mice will come and eat it up in the basement or other bugs , i live in the country so mice are inevitable in the house even with poison or traps or moth balls to store the stuff they always wreak things in foam ......i could use an acrylic mat sealer on it but still when it will be stored it will get chewed on .??????
i also went out and bought a can of car body filler that was 9$ but heck i have a 5 story tall cake so i am now wondering how much cans i'll need ....so that will become an expensive cake lol ....
other thing i was wondering would polyfilla work(it is stuff to fill the nail holes in walls ?
i need to start on this project this week as it will be rain half the week here so any more suggestions are welcome

Maybe “spackle is a US term? It sounds like you call it polyfilla. Spackle is what I use to fill in nail holes, that is its purpose. I suggested it because it is so cheap and it is made to spread, paint and it dries hard. I think we are talking about the same thing, just different names for it.
