Inexpensive Black Lights –

The best deal for black lights is to go to a place like Home Depot, purchase the least expensive four foot flourecent fixture Preferable with an AC cord on it already) and then buy the seperate flourecent bulb. You won't have the fancy black fixture but you'll save yourself at least 50% compared to buying a dedicated black light. I have done this to build a larege Haunted House / Maze in my backyard.

I like the 48" bulbs in a work fixture, too. Bulbs run around 10-15 bucks at retail.
But, you can buy a di quality UV Cannon or UV wash on ebay or at a DJ store for 60 bucks up.
I have an Elation UV Wash light, and holy cow it blows all other units away. It is in a sealed unit with mounting hardware, etc. It's about the size of a small breadbox.

I bought mine for $69 on ebay a few years ago.

As far as on the cheap, the DJ equipment is a pro unit. You pay through the nose for it. Go with the shoplight and buy the flourecent bulbs for them. Buy on-line and pay extra for shipping. I bought a double-bulb fixture, (Home Depot) and had two bulbs a piece in them. And wow! It threw out the UV like mad! They lasted several years. Longer than I thought they would last. If I have to replace them, I'd do the exact same thing.

Depending on the application, I've found that the 24" units work pretty well for me, and they can be had retail (like Walmart) for under $10.
I have a half dozen, and just mount them where I need them - the unit is only a little larger than the tube itself, so I can put them practically anywhere, and they're easy to hide form sight (allowing the light to do it's work, but the bulb itself to remain hidden from direct view).
Otherwise, the 4' tubes work in regular holders, so if you have a florescent unit already, just commandeer that for Halloween use with your blacklight tube.Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...

Not the 24" - I've actually left them burning for over a day and a half at a stretch (forgetting to turn them off at night, and not noticing they're on all day, until darkness falls again and the UV light is noticeable).
All night long is no problem - and I've had some of these for 5 or 6 years now, running them many, many nights in a row.Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...
