Any ideas on how to make store bought props more "gooey"?

I found a Texas Chainsaw Massacre buffet platter for cheap and when I got it, well, it looks so dry and sad as opposed to the pictures I saw.

I was thinking of putting vaseline on it or something to give it a more liquid or gooey effect, maybe toss some fake blood in with that.

    Anybody else got any suggestions?

(did a search but I didn't find anything)

A friend of a friend of mine knows a guy that suggested maybe K-Y Jelly would work.

We go to Halloween Horror Nights every year...and took a private tour once. And they gave their secret to making some of the foam and dry latex props look wet and semi-nasty.It may not be the complete effect you're looking for.....but you will be amazed and what just water sprayed out of a bottle will do for the prop. Before you mess with anything....just give the water a try...and then go from there.I know...lol..sounds too easy...but try it.
