Hello, I currently make plaques (both big and small) to sell using real spider webs. I never hear any complaints from buyers but I was curious if you all could take a look at my photo album and give me some feedback as to your opinions, ideas, etc. on how I could possibly make them better. It would be greatly appreciated.
thanks ahead of time

Those are really cool!! How do you use real webs for that?

Hi LHALLOW,
First let me say thank you for the compliment. I recently applied for a business license as I would really like to open my own shop so hopefully they feel the same way you do! It is really easy though..the webs you see are real spider webs you just have to make sure you scare the spider off first lol. By using paint and or a light dusting of powder you make them stand out on your platform.

These are awesome, very nice too.
Is this more of a seasonal art form? (Spring to early fall ETC.)
or do you have a few spiders, (year around) on call? (LOL) ;-'))
I have seen the paint effect technique; but, I would like to know more about the power technique you noted

Hi TN, thank you for the comment.
The powder technique has to do with two seperate versions. The first being you can lightly dust the web with a plain talcum powder again it must be lightly as the web sticks to EVERYTHING.
The second option is lightly dusting with powder and then using the paint.
You want to pay close attention to not only the design of the web and how it will fit on your platform but you want to capture it shortly after its been created otherwise you have all sorts of things that have been stuck in the web.
In answer to your question about when is the best time to retrieve the webs..it varies. Even if you live in a state as I do where you have the changing seasons there is always somewhere to find a web. In a garage, a barn (if its not your barn be sure to ask the owners if you can take their webs lol), basements... You may have to look alittle harder but the possibilities are endless. I myself am pretty lucky as my basement has a dirt ground. I do have to be more careful as to what Im doing and my surroundings as missouri is known for brown recluses but I have been pretty lucky (knock on wood).
The key...ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT YOU SCARE THE SPIDER AWAY FIRST. If you are lucky enough to have them move out of the path of the spider web (they go into hiding out of the way) they will easily come back and rebuild another web. Usually within 24 hours. It's pretty fascinating to watch and I learned by mistake. I took a web that was on the side of the garage. (You can ask anyone you know..I am DEATHLY afraid of live spiders LOL! I can handle alot of things but put a spider on me and I cry like a baby!!) and went later that evening to put the ladder, etc..away. Long and behold...another spider web! Must tell you though..once you start you are constantly on the lookout for spider webs.
