Hi Everyone,
Been a lurker here for sometime (well, over 2 years if you see my join date!) firgured I would start to post a bit now!
Anyway, past weekend got a couple big projects done for our haunt this year. I needed a new cemetery fence for infront of my garage. We create a graveyard scene in our garage each year with a homemade animatronic witch that stirs a cauldron (courtesy of scarefx).
Here is the first picture of the fence in process.
The posts were made out of 4" pvc. I connected them to a wood base with L brackets and then filled about 6inches in the base with mortar to weigh it down. We got little gargoyle statues for the tops of the posts so I figured it could get top heavy very quickly with them being so tall.
The center sections were made with 1/2" pvc. with 1x2's making the cross sections.
In this next picture.....I took a blowtorch to heat up and bend the pvc to make it look like the iron bars (once painted) were bent by someone trying to get in......or something trying to get out!!We got little skulls (9 for $1 at the dollar store) and glued them to the tops of the PVC for finials.
Here is the picture of the final product all put together.....We got the center arch from HauntedHost. He got several of these from Michaels for 90% off and he was nice enough to give us one!!! Thanks! We spraypainted everything black.
I attached the fence sections to the posts using a screw eyelet in the post and then just a simple screw in the fence sections, it just simply sits into the eyelet.
I think the whole thing turned out great and is makes a very good presence for our haunt. It should hold up a lot more better then our previous fence which was basically wood dowels nailed together.
We also made a toe pincher coffin which the basic plans came from scarefx again. We then stained it using some old gel stain we had left over and cut a cross out of the top for a cool green light and fog to seap out of!!
Thanks for reading.

Very nice work.
If we have any time to build more cemetary fence, we also plan to use the Dollar-Tree skulls as finials. (We've already built enough to use up 1 gross of skull whistles.)
It's good to see that they work well for that use.
The four inch columns for stands are a great idea.Fright in Falcon - Behind the Scenes

Yeah those dollar tree skulls worked really well. We sprayed them black and then dry brushed them white....I think it made them look better. We did the same thing with the Dollar Tree gargoyles too.

Dollar store bits –
09-09-2008,11:52 AM
I am using the larger foam head skulls on a string from the Dollar Store for some of my fence finials (there are slightly smaller bags of plastic heads). I removed the string and used Elmers wood putty to close the string whole-tan color is pretty similar to the skull color-but it wouldn't make a difference if you plan to paint them. I also bought some of the small skeleton hands to try as finials-I'm going to try and alternate them and see how they look. Thought of making eyeballs from ping pong balls (styrofoam if cheaper and if I can find them) and sharpie markers and trying those as well. I will post some picks next week when I finish.

We saw those same skulls you are talking about. We were debating it but figured the plastic ones would hold up better to the elements. Our old fence use to be completely inside out garage, just inside the door, but this fence is going ot be sitting out about 3 ft on the outside. We liked the bigger ones though!
We even debated using the hands as finials as well...just didn't know exactly how to work it though, would be cool if they were poseable, you could make the hands "hold" the skulls!"There must be some way out of here, said the joker to the thief"

Plus we used the larger foam skulls as finials on our last fence. They held up pretty well....but definately spray them with polyurethene

Up to 5 posts now Hubby! Keep 'em coming.
Pretty soon you'll find yourself on here all year 'round and working on projects in January and February.

Great job on the fence! The arch blends in perfectly! And I love the bends in the metal and the U-shaped design of each section. I've already told Hallow, but very nice job!
