You could probably find a cheap FM transmitter kit at most electronic hobby shops, and use a cheap FM radio at the prop.

I wonder if they sell "Mr. Microphone" any more? "Hey, good lookin'...we'll be back to pick YOU up later!"

they do still sell the 'mr. microphone' type products - unfortunately they don't work very well. usually the range is less then 5 feet adn its reliability is iffy at best. I think most people use powered computer speakers and cheap boom boxes. Both can be found cheaply on craigslist.

Now if you're talking 'live' action with a microphone, well, you'll need more stuff. either a PA system set up or a mini mixer.

Try looking for Shure LX series, a lot of companies are throwing them out due to the fact that they will be illegal to use in Feb 2009 when the VHF TV frequencies that they hide between get taken over by the cell phone companies - so you get to use them for this season.

Here is what I use, it's cheap and works well,
    C. Crane Wireless FM Transmitter FMT
And here is a modification to increase range,
