Last year, the day before our Halloween party, we decided to build a torture wheel. Considering it was a last minute attempt using things we had left over from other projects -- it turned out. Problem is that it is a little heavy and the motor died before Halloween Night.

Any suggestions on what type of motor to use to get it to turn.

Hi Scary - nice prop! Are you wanting the wheel to continuously turn or rotate back and forth?

Wiper motors seem to work really well for halloween props. Not too expensive and lots of torq for those heavy props.

you probably need something pretty heavy duty like an industrial fan motor. you may also want to consider some kind of belt or wheel drive. I have a torture wheel as well but its hand operated. Very cool prop, good luck!

The wheel spins - at least it did for about a week Not sure what item around the house we took the motor of off. It didn't burn out it just stopped turning the wheel after a while.

I think a wiper motor is ideal. I would not try the fan motor... those are high-speed/low-torque. The wiper motor is definitely the way to go. And you can usually pick them up for about $16 or less. (You'll need a power supply). See Scary Terry's Halloween Page for lots of info about wiper motors.
