Would this work for Halloween lights, for those of us that don't have the bucks to spend on the high tech ones.

Looks like a single channel light organ. I have used one for syncing lightning with thunder.

just got one of these thing two weeks ago. My dad gave this to me said that i might have a use for it. I plug ed a spot light in to it and it has a sensitivity setting on it and a RCA jack so you don't have to use the speaker to activate it. I played around with it and add some thunder and it made for a decent lightning affect. i say if you want a cheep way of making lightning, this works pretty good

Boy do I feel ripped off! The design is the same as the Special FX Unit, just a different color, and with a Christmas tree instead of a lightning bolt. It's exactly the same. Both machines are made by Can You Imagine. The Christmas Tree FX retails for $34.99 on their site, so $9.95 is one HELL of a BARGAIN!!!

Does anyone know how many watts you can connect to something like this?

You can connect lights up to total 500w max on the Special fx- so the xmas fx shouldn't be any different
