    Thinking about giant spider being lowered by a motor about 20-30 feet off the ground

    I'm not sure what kind of motor I could use, it obviously wouldn't have to be large because the spider would weigh next to nothing but it would need to be able to be reversed either by switch or automatically.

    I'm thinking about mounting it to a tree on a 2x4 high up with a pully to guide the wire.

    Thoughts and suggestions appreciated!!

    Hi Tex,

    You might consider a DC motor controller like this one from acroname:
    Devantech MD22 Motor Driver

    it can operate in several modes, one of which will control the speed of the DC motor using a controller designed for an RC servo. As for motors, I would look at the selection that Lynxmotion has here: Spur Gear Motors
