Hello guys. As Halloween gets closer, I start to think of more things I need for my haunt. I am in need of a tutorial on how to make some paper mache hands that look as if they were freshly chopped off. I can make some decent papier mache corpse hands, but I haven't seen anything online that shows how to make freshly chopped off body parts. I had an idea that I will try later on...I bought a gelatin mold of a hand (it is supposed to be for food) and I am going to fill it with paper mache pulp/clay and wait until it dries, then make another. The drawback here is that PM takes about forever to dry so I am limited. I would be interested in any method to make freshly chopped hands, legs, heads, etc. Maybe I can convert them to be used with paper mache. Thanks

Gee, my first thought was to use those plastic latex gloves that come with hair coloring, or doctors use, and maybe fill them up with paper, then paper mache over them. Then the layers would be thinner and could dry quicker. I'm interested to see what people say since I always need more hands.

I tried that method and I couldn't get it right. I did, however, try to do a tape double last night. It is not very easy, but it works. I wrapped newspaper around my arm and taped it down. I used a rubber glove on my hand and taped around it. The fingers were hard to pull out after all the tape was on and also difficult to re-tape and stuff with newspaper. Tonight I'll try to tape-double just my arm and attach the glove already stuffed with newspaper and paper mache over it. The method won't give me any details like fingerprints and such, but the hands/arms will be displayed in a dark area so it shouldn't matter

If you wanted fingerprints on the hands, couldn't you just use a red ink-pad and stamp them on there (using your own fingers as the stamp)?

OMG! Great idea, Jade! I never though of that. After I paper mache the arm I will try that out and let you know how it works. Thanks

You should look up old posts by Madmax. He was the king of great stuff sand casting!
You can also add a fake bone into the end where the hand is chopped for creepier effect while the great stuff is still wet.

I did foam hands (by tracing my own hands on a thin sheet of foam) & cut them out with a wire foam cutter. Also cut the fingers at the joints. Then inserted cut coat hanger wire through the fingers & extended long enough to attach the hand. Bent the fingers into the angle I wanted, then hot glued the finger joints & hand together. Wait until the hot glue cools down. Then you can either paper mache the hands, cloth, or whatever media to cover them.
