I found a good deal on an Eliminator EF-1000 fog machine (4,500 cubic feet/min.) for $40, but I have no experience with the brand, and the deal sounds too good to be true for a 1,000-watt fogger. It also uses water-based fog juice, which I don't think I've ever used. What's the difference between water-based and glycol-based? Is Eliminator a good brand?

I'm not sure if I want to upgrade from my 400-watt fog machine this year or next (pref. this year), but my Halloween budget is coming close to its end.

IME, unless you're willing to spend the coin on a pro-level fogger, such as a Jem / Martin, some of the higher end Elations or OmniSistems, anything will due, just don't expect it to last forever.

I have a number of $100 foggers at the haunted house that have died within a single season, I have a number of $20 foggers that have died in a single season. Then again, I have $20 foggers that have lasted multiple seasons as well. Anymore, it's easier and cheaper for me to buy new $20 foggers every year, just making sure that they are compatible with my timers.

Thanks. I know fogger life varies (despite cost), which is why I'm tempted to get a 1,000 watt fogger for only $40. The model usually sells for around $175.

Keep in mind, 1000W means realitively little. IME, I've found that most units are grossly overrated as far as wattage is concerned. I have 700W foggers that only pull 4.5-5 amps.. Not really possible. Unless you're going to be constantly fogging an area, trying to make is imposible to see through or fogging an outdoors area, wattage is of little concern.

A higher wattage unit is only going to give you a faster initial warmup time and a faster recovery time between high-output foggings.

The faster recovery time is really what I'm after. The 400-watt fogger I have takes too long to recover, and the fog dissipates. I'd much rather have a more steady level of fog. I know that output (cubic feet of fog) really doesn't mean much because there is no true universal measurement between foggers. After all, one fogger can create denser fog than another.

Of course, I only have a very small space to fill this year, so I may hold off on buying another fogger until later. I'm just weighing my options.

i use 2 eliminator lighting foggers the ef-400 and 700 they are great machines and built alot better than anything you would find in the way of party city type 1000w units, eliminator lighting is a small knock off brand in the pro sound industry alot like cheaper chauvet stuff, they are no martin, vei, or high-end systems but they have served me well, i got my 400w unit for $19 on sale from musiciansfriend 3 years ago and it's still working just like new. just don't skimp out on fog juice, i use froggys and it's been great
