Hubby got started on these today -- he used some of the foamboard from Dollar Tree to form the obelisk. The base is a Dollar Tree styrofoam cooler inverted with the lid put on the bottom of it. He still has to smooth out the seams, fasten the base & top together & then paint/finish it but I think it looks fantastic so far! It's about 4' tall altogether...

    Hey - that's my idea...

I did one of those out of Dollar Tree foam board last month, and it really does work great for cheap! Love the idea of using the cooler -I've got one of those sitting around and I was thinking of turning it into a low tombstone, but another cool obelisk would look pretty good.

Mine was just under 4 feet, using 4 boards, and caulk, joint compound, glue and scrap styrofoam - under 6 dollars total.

    Obelisk for under $6

Yes, yours is GREAT, FrankiesGirl & it was the inspiration for us to pick up the foamboard! When we were picking up the foamboard, hubby spotted the coolers & thought they might work for a base, so we tried that out.

That's great when you can take $3 in materials and make it look like something that would cost $50.
I like it !! Where is the foamboard in the Dollar Tree?

It's been in different spots in different stores. But it's in a cardboard display box, sheets standing up on end. One of our DT's had it towards the front, near some school supplies - the other store had the box stuck in the middle of one of the aisles.
