My neighbor was cutting down a vine on the weekend so I thought I would add one more prop to this year's list and decided to copy the design Tavaruas has posted elsewhere.
My challenge was that I could not find a large enough pumpkin at Michaels and the "funkins" don't ship to Canada.
So I started in the workshop with what I had lying around - I framed the pumpkin with diamond bead (not sure if this is what everyone else calls it, but its the stuff masons use) - anyway, with gloves, this stuff is awsome to work with - you can push it around and shape it much better than chicken wire and it lends a fair bit of strength as well.
Next I made the monster mud with a couple of gallons of outdoor stain (because i had old stuff on hand (one white and one brown)) and sheetrock 90 - next i used and old towel as a base layer and used strips of an old sheet to get the viney looking head...
Anyway, all in to this point it took 2.5 hours which was way better for me the 20 layers of paper - its not perfect, but it was fast and after only 8 hours its already about a third of the way through the drying process - will post more when I find the time to get back to it ...

I think this is going to turn out well. I didn't see Tavaruas's design. You have a link? What's it going to be mounted to? Stick? A 'body'?

Tavaruas' design is here: Help with Head for Pumpkin Monster page five has pictures
For mine the body is all time dependent - I have 4 other projects on the go, plus a big construction job in my spare time at my in-laws - eventually, I want a metal spine so I can connect 5 foot arms that just want to hug you...suddenly - for this year though it will probably just be a static prop held up with wire and vine, perhaps with a red light inside the head.
Other projects I want to complete are a crank ghost (motor in the mail); laser vortex (half built); rising samantha (pneumatic); joking skeletons (mp3 plyer just arrived and am waiting on 'puter speakers); static reaper (not likely to get done); plus I have to clean up last years coffin leaper...only two months left,
Cheers
