Alright, I got two new props done today.
The first is a wall light, using the skeleton hands technique someone posted here. I did a few things different, like using different materials, but otherwise I like the way it came out.
The other is a sign I made using foam and a wood burner. It isn't as nice, but will server the purpose of advertising the trunk or treat at the church. If I'm building a 17 foot tall, 15 foot wide haunted house with about 500 sq feet inside of it (and a Monster In A Trunk so it passes the new rule of "It must use a trunk" for the "best trunk" contest) then I want to start getting the word out early.

Does your church promote "trunk or treat" as an alternative to Halloween? Most do and I've always thought of the concept as an attempt to stifle Halloween. Just curious. The hand prop loks great btw.

Maybe we used to, but we don't anymore. I'm the chairman of the "Families with Children Committee" at the church. I sat down with the Minister of Families with Children and told her when I took the position that Halloween was my favorite holiday and I would not do anything that attempted to take away Halloween from the church kids. She whole heartedly agreed, but warned that Trunk or Treat was set up for just that purpose.
I said I'd fix that, and I have. It is always the Saturday before Halloween, never on Halloween. (This year is a good example, we could have EASILY done it on Halloween Friday.) And I build the creepiest stuff for it, and always have.
The first year, when I did use a "Trunk" I took my small wooden toe-pincher coffin and set it in the back of my SUV, up on its side. The kids had to enter the SUV on the driver side, crawl around the coffin and its skeletal and screaming occupant and other various goodies, and out the passanger door to get candy. I thought it was going to be a lynching, I was sure I'd gone over the top for my fairly conservative Baptist church.
I was gladly wrong. The kids LOVED it. The parents LOVED it. A few of the older members called me "sick" but that's okay, I didn't do it for them.
The "trunk" has grown since then. Last year I ignored the trunk all-to-gether and built a portable dot room. My partner in crime built a FCG and with a few other odds and ends, including turning my static toe-pincher into an animated Boris-In-A-Coffin, we had a great time. Now I'm on the wire to improve over last year with something even better.
So far what we have planned is a 15 foot wide 17 foot tall haunted house facade for the dot room. Just inside the door of the Haunted House will be a 8 foot long, 4 foot wide room that will have a few surprises, including two of the hand lights I made. In the front window of the house will be two Boris skulls carrying on a pre-recorded conversation. The Boris-In-A-Coffin will be back, talking live to the guests. And the dot room will be back, with a HUGE change. Since many of the people will have been in the dot room last year, instead of using an adult as the dot ghost, my 5 year old is looking forward to playing the ghost. Hopefully people who've been in before will start looking for an adult sized person to scare them, and be unprepared for the short child that will be doing the job.
Other additions are some pretty cool static props we have in the works. Not ready to discuss them in case they don't happen in the interest of time.
