I am a graphic designer, and work for a publishing place.
We've been upgrading stuff over the last year, and one of the things that has pretty much become useless is our light table. It was used primarily (back in the dark ages) as a slide viewer, and used to help line up registration and other stuff that is all done by computer now. it has two 22" florescent tubes inside, and is around 2 x 3 feet surface area, with a removable opaque plexi cover.
I borrowed it last year for my liquor/mad lab display.
I asked if nobody used it anymore, could I buy it from the company, and they told me I could HAVE it. So I have a really cool large surface that I might even be able to put black light tubes into.
I am going to experiment with colored acetate over it to see what sort of light effects I can do with it...
SO what else could I do with this? I have a classic graveyard for the outside decorating if that helps.

quick thought, maybe put it at the bottom of a well or tunnel to hell, with a red filter over it. That should put a really good red glow eminating out of it.

I was thinking along the same lines. It should be inside something. Maybe in a grave, with the dirt being pushed up and an arm coming out. Use red or green...that would be scary.

Maybe an x-ray display for a future mad lab scene!

The first thing that popped into my mind was a checkerboard, like chess or checkers.

It looks best as a mad lab display to illuminate liquids, but I could see it used in a witches kitchen to illuminate reagents and spells.

Hey there.. as you already know, you nca replace the flouescent tubes fairly easily... how about changing replacing them with blacklight tubes (they should be a standard size) and you have a great table for a "mad scientist display"
OR
Hey... why didn't I think of this one before!!! OK... yeah... replace the tubes with black lights and you now have a blacklight diffusion panel or "wash"... it's like a wide-angle blacklight! Hang it upside-down on the ceiling and it'll cover quite and area.
Yeehaw! My light table is hereby resurrected from the smoking ashes of film-base photography only to lives again in Halloweenland!!! LOL!

Sotty Guitarist155,
I didn't mean to denounce film in any way... I realize there's still benifits to film over the existing digital technology.

Recycling is always good.
Besides, you never know when you could happen on something unexpected for the right price.
