We stopped in the Goodwill store last night and I made two nice finds. One was a plasma globe, but didn't have a transformer cord. The other was a long, tubular fish aquarium. It's about 8" in diameter and 30 " high, plus a black plastic base. This is EXACTLY the type of thing I was looking for to put over my Jacob's Ladder rods to prevent people from touching them!
...and as an added bonus of serendipity, the transformer that was with the aquarium works with the plasma globe!

    That is a great find!

You have to post pics once you have it all set up.

I am having no luck for a jacob's ladder transformer

The only neon shop store around here has one transformer for 75 bucks, and its used.

All the Oil burner places will not sell me a transformer

And I ripped apart a computer monitor and got the transformer from there, but it is too weak to do anything....

Any suggestions on where I can get a transformer pretty cheap?

My money for props is pretty much non existing

I just used coat hanger wire for mine - I tried copper wire, but it got hot and would droop out of alignment. copper pipe is a good idea though!

Do you think those small novelty bar signs from Spencers would work?

My friend has a Beer Pong neon sign that he bought for about 30 bucks. Just the other day, his cat knocked it over and the neon tube broke, so my friend said he would give me the base and everything.

Do you thing that would produce enough charge?

I had a power supply from a full sized neon sign that I used.
