    *From Gromit's hubby...

"I am making a cannon out of 6 inch diameter PVC. But I don't want to have a uniform diameter. I would like to make the rear half of the cannnon slightly thicker and am considering wrapping it in fiberglass. Has any done anything like this, or worked with fiberglass? any helpful hints would be appreciated"...

I haven't worked with fiberglass enough to give advice, but several other members use foam to shape them. Maybe sticking a few pieces on the back over the PVC. Easy to shape, light weight, easy to work with.

Yes, foam all the way. You can get a wood rasp to rough in the shape and then sand it down to smooth it. Make sure you wear a dust mask while doing the rasping and sanding!

Once done in foam you can then paint it and coat with fiberglass

I have a cannon I'm making. What I want to do is use 6" diameter PVC pipe 5' long as core and use a sono tube as a cone shaped skin. So that the cannon will be 6" diameter in the front and 10" in the rear.
