I was in Michaels yesterday and saw this Electronic Halloween Countdown Sign. Grant it the rest of the sign is pretty cheesy but I would love to have the electronics of it and make my own sign around the displays and electronics. I was just wondering if anyone has seen it or bought it and if it could easily be hacked. Unfortunately my job takes me out of town for days at a time so I need a countdown sign that I dont have to be there to change everyday. This would be perfect!

I bought it - with the intention of changing it.
Right now I have it on my front porch as is counting down, seems to work pretty well.
you just set the time left until halloween (or any other date) and away it goes.
Looks pretty easy to take the electronics and move then to a different prop, that is what I intend to do - but it may take me a year or two, LOL!- Brad

Thanks for posting this information. Just went down and got the last two they had.
This is just what I wanted.

I have this sign. My intention was to mount it in a tombstone.
I posted somewhere here that when I got it I was happy to see the electronic part was just screwed into place, making it appear to be easy to remove.
havent gotten that far yet. That may be a project for next year. especially since it is hard at work counting down as we speak.
I am still trying to figure out where the back up batteries are? incase they ever need to be replaced.
the back up battery is a really good idea. since I dont have it on till it gets dark. So it always resumes the countdown w/o haveing to reprogram the date and time.

I just got mine less than 2 hours ago.

Used the 40% coupon and save $30. I was wondering about taking the electronics and putting them on something else, but that will probably have to wait for next year.

do they have the 40% everyweek? I had one but it expired $80 isn't worth it.

You can go online and print out a 40% off coupon - someone posted a link to it in another thread, but here it is again:
Michaels ~ The Arts and Crafts Store
When we were there yesterday we looked at the sign. I'm wondering if you can get some sort of plain old countdown sign somewhere that would be cheaper. My husband had the same reaction - it would be easy to just take the counter off the back (it's just screwed on) but overall, not worth what they are asking.
Maybe keep an eye on it and see if they go on clearance after Halloween.
