Some friends were up this weekend and we were sitting on the deck late at night and started talking about the plans for Halloween and about 2 hours later we had completely planned out that this year we're doing "LOST". Not really scary or traditional, but the more we brainstormed the more we loved the idea. So, now I'm starting to save all the stuff I usually put in recycling and am making "Dharma" covers for cereal, soup, ect. We want to put the plane on the front lawn with some red glowing "eyes" looking out of it with a recording of wild pig sounds. ON the other side of the lawn we're going to make "the hatch" with a light shining up out of it. Back by the fence with be the graveyard for everyone that's been killed off, we plan to have more than one grave for Arnst (the science teacher that got blown to pieces) and a few all named "Steve". The garage will be made to look like the inside of the hatch, complete with a computer to enter in the numbers every 108 minutes. I'm going to make candy bar wrappers with Dharma logos to hand out, too. And we've all picked out characters already, too. Luckily my husband can pull of either Charlie or Sawyer
Sounds fun. So what do you have in mind for the plane? A pretty big section or just some flat facade?
It is expensive, but a roll of Tyvex housewrap is pretty good over a basic frame. for the frame, steal components from tents or canopies (if you live near a beach, they often have broken tent frames laying about). I also used a roll of mylar for covering a 12' PVC frame alian space ship. It glues pretty well and is VERY shiny, aluminum looking. It would need to be lightly sprayed to dull it down to aircraft wings looking metal... I got a roll cheap from a online supplier of 'growing supplies', ie garden 'herbs'. Get the thicker stuff.
Wind will be your enemy with any such large structures...
I once had a Luxor replica for a Vegas theme. For the spotlight (your hatch light) I got a cheap spotlight from HarborFreight. It was like 2MM candlewatts...with a bit of haze or fog, it really looked good shining straight up from under the pyramid.
