I was just on YouTube and saw a video featuring an animated skull from Skullwerks - I was just curious, has anyone else heard of them? Looks like excellent work and VERY similar to Skulltronix...just a TAD more affordable to an Average Joe...$799 + $50 for shipping as opposed to $1599...Are they by any chance related??? I guess not...um, the main difference I see is that you have to do all the work yourself with Skullwerks (VSA)...but I think most of us are pretty talented and wouldn't mind coming up with a show ourselves...plus, couldn't you just buy the routines you want from Skulltronix? Just a thought...

I think Dionica has a few for sale that she built following the original HalloweenBob plans at $275 each (while they last) over in the For Sale By Individuals section. Her's don't have the eyes or a controller but you can get controllers for about $20 for a single skull (Polulu) that works with VSA. No more trouble than setting up the Skullwerks one.

The skullwerks is nice but the eyes are a single color thats on or off. $500 is alot for moving single color eyes.

You're right. The eyes are single color. IMO the Skulltonix is much higher quality. I've asked Jerry about these before and he said that the way the skull is mounted tends to cause problems and not be very smooth. I don't mind seeing a lower quality affordable prop, but it does seem really expensive for what it is (single color eyes). I don't think you could buy Skulltronix routines for this, since it probably uses a different controller. The servos would also be mounted differently, and could very well have different limits than the Skulltronix.

All things considered, yes...Skulltronix is without a doubt much higher quality - I AM NOT KNOCKING THEM IN THE LEAST! I was simply showing OPTIONS...in life, those are always a plus...

Couldn't the fact Skullwerks single eye color be because they simply can not do all the same things as Skulltronix for copyright infringement purposes? You would not buy a prop simply because it's eyes don't change colors? REALLY?

The SkullTroniX BoC (Board of Chuckie) is available from SkullTronix

Early SkullTroniX skulls used 4 separate PCBs to control the servo motion and eyes, two of which were custom designed.

The BoC is SkullTroniX's own servo board that combines the features of all of these separate boards and corrects the many pitfalls that were suffered from using the regular off the shelf servo boards.

Thanks for pointing that out... SkullTronix routines are only available for purchase by registered SkullTronix owners. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to the customers who paid full price if suddenly the same routines were available for use on competing or home grown systems.

Plus, the routines are specifically designed for the exact system specifications of a SkullTronix skull. They wouldn't play properly, if at all, on another system.

Don't get me wrong... I don't mind options either. But for me, if I had to choose now after seeing the skullwerks skull, I think the skullwerks is much lower quality and not worth the price. But then again, i'm sure someone could say that about some of the props we use. If single eye color is all you need, then this may be the way to go. It's all a matter of personal opinion.

Im sorry some of you feel that way but its not what its made out of its the personal attention to the skulls and the time I put in to them I respect every one of you for your opinions and will be droping the price!

    Thanks Skullwerks
