Nothing like being a Johnny-Come-Late but I've been wanting to build an FCG and just got into researching them. There's an archive I've found from 1999 where they talk about building (and not theoretically, actually building) an FCG that weighs under 5 lbs (that's WITH motor) and folds down to a stick that can almost fit in a glove compartment. It uses a powerful enough motor that with an 8" throw it doesn't need a counterweight (which, from what I gather, is good since it can't accommodate one...still reading without the benefit of SEEING) and still would work with any of the weight typical ghosts people make today for full-sized units.
Ok, this perks my interest more than a little. However, I can't find any details as none of the sites talking about it seem to exist anymore (other than this forum archive). No videos of one working, no pictures, no materials list, no instructions....nada.
Did all of this simply just disappear over the last 9 years? Is the FCG Lite now the equivalent of

How about stating what a FCG is for us newbies who just joined?
Thanks

Good thing I stumbled on this thread, or you might have gone crazy! I went through the same things trying to build a FLYING CRANK GHOST! I did literally about 2 years of research on the stupid things and could not figure our why you needed 25lbs of steel, 22 pullys, a $200.00 motor and so on and on... So I came up with my own design! My rig weighs 2.2 lbs (thats with the motor!) and my ghost weighs 1.1 lb. thats 3.3 lbs total! IT is a full 6 foot ghost! With my new design, I have been selling these on EBAY (link below for pictures/auction/video) I cant give away too many secrets because I do sell them.....They sell during the halloween season from $100 - $150 each. That is the rig, ghost and motor! I am willing to sell these to anyone who reads this thread for only $85.00 + shipping! I don't mean to advertise here but just thought I could help!

Flying Crank Ghost, made famous by the originators Phantasmechanics.com.
The Flying Crank Ghost - Instructions, Part 1
and another site that breaks down the rigging and build for the technically challenged (like myself):

sumrtym - Good luck finding info on the FCG lite - I'm currently building a regular FCG and the motor alone weighs in at 4-5 pounds and I'm using a motor I took out of a fan. I know it weighs less than the regular motors the typical plans call for. I am not using the typical rig and building most of the frame out of wood, eliminating the pulleys for eyebolts, etc... this is a great project that can be built by any home haunter with a little instruction!I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

Flying Crank Ghost
Its an animated ghost marionette prop. A motor turns an arm which causes the body and arms of the ghost puppet to move up and down on strings.
Do a search on this forum and you will find many posts, they are a popular prop to build. You can also visit this site
FCG GUILD
Also check YouTube, there are bound to be some video on there of one in operation.
Cheers

This is my favorite FCG. This guy used flat black pint to deaden the right areas and ended up with a really cool head.
