Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had done this and how it worked for them. My thought was to make the boards from cardboard (thank you local furniture store) and covering them with the sticky shelf paper that looks like wood (thank you DG). I figure I can cover all 4 of my lower windows for about 6$ with creepy boarded up window facades. I know they wont last more than one season but for 6$ and time running out I think it might be good. What do you all think?

Thats a great idea. A few years ago i had some made of thin plastic and used that to wrap around cardboard but they got damaged one year and i threw them out thinking i can get more, but never found them again. But using that stuff would work great. Good idea!

My only worry would be the rain.... that could be very cardboard "unfriendly". Post pics and let us see if you do it.

Wind is the main problem I had. The rain problem just use plenty of clear plastic tape.

This is one of my favorite project sites"

    SWiSH Movie - Boards.swi - www.swishzone.com

Browse through his instructions on the boarded up windows - they look fantastic.

if cardboard would be a problem under weather conditions use... foam? That might be more resistant. I even thought if you could find sheets of plastic like what the cheap cutting boards are made out of that are really thin.

DeadTed; I thought about foamboard too( and I too love that site!) unfortunately my alooted foamboard funds went to 17 new tombstones! Yay new tombstones so much better than the ones I purchased last year. I will probably make the foam ones over the winter after this season. Oh my yet another project for next year!

How about the foam core board from Dollar tree? It Might hold up a bit better if it rains.

I board up my windows every year with.....WOOD! I used fence board (1x6 dog eared) that I got from Lowes and a reduced price because they were a bit warpped. I hang 2 boards vertically from the J-Channel on my vinly siding. The boards are attached with cup hooks. After that, I attached a handful of boards horizonally and at slight angles and Iam done. They last year after year, dont blow off in the wind, and rain does not affect them in any way. There are pictures on my link and the bottom..... On a brick home, there is usually a metal strip above each window. A nail can be inserted between the metal and the brick to support the boards.

Find some old pallets... most companies give them away for free.
