I have 2 outdoor lights I have installed on my cemetary columns. They are your typical lantern type outdoor light. (60 watt max bulb) I know you typically wire them to your household 110VAC but I really didnt want to run an extension cord all the way out to the bottom of my driveway where they would be. Anybody know if they would run off any kind of battery for the night? Was thinking a 12 volt or something like that just for the night. Thanks in advance!

No, but you can buy 12 volt bulbs that look like regular bulbs and fit in the same sockets. They sell them for auto trouble lights, RV use, camping etc. Gonna need a serious battery though, they suck a lot of juice. You might want to consider converting them something less power hungry, perhaps lower wattage bulbs or LED.

    Don:
Yeah thats what I was afraid of. Sounds like I may just have to run extension cords out to the columns. But thanks for the input!

I've seen in stores these battery powered lights that look just like a regular light bulb attached to a socket base. The base of the light might get in your way, though.
I've seen them for sale at BJ's Warehouse and some drug stores--like Walgreen's.

Those are a "as seen on tv" item....our Dollar General has them too for 5 bucks. That is a good idea....the base could be painted black to match the lantern easily.

I'm wondering if you can jerryrig a couple of solar lights into your fixtures. If you want them to flicker, they make some nice flickering sets that come in a torch looking set up. BTW, I have one of those flickering solar tiki torches now and I'm going to get more. They look good, and last longer than some of our other solars.
So come up to the lab and see what's on the slab.

you may have to get creative for the flicker effect - but what about LED bulbs?
