They are both good, the more lumens are better in the long run for me. anything less than 1800 you really need dark,if you use these for a movie every now & then.the EX50 is a little better but i wouldn't worry about it unless you were planning to use it for reg uses. The EX40 would be fine.

I have a two car garage and i wondered about hanging a scrim in that. The projector would sit in the garage and project out. Not sure of the garage opening dimentions, but it should be around 25-30' by 10'.
May not need to use the enitre area. Not sure if the projector I have would cover the entire area anyway. What do you think? Are these available anyplace else than mailorder?

I have an old epson that I got from a previous employer. Works well, I currently have it in my garage for running some movies. If I adjust it the image would be at least half the garage.

I would like to do the same thing with my garage. I would borrow a projector from work. Just wonder when I hang the white sheet, do I need to somehow frame with some sort of black material so that you really can't tell it is just an open garage door? Also I am new to this - what is "scrim" and where do you buy it?

I used that black plastic sheet for painting from home depot/lowes. It comes in pretty large sizes so you can just trim and add where necessary. Here an image from my bro's halloween setup two years ago. If you look closely you can make out the plastic sheeting
