okay, so electrical outlets are in short supply for my party and I need lighting. I've been buying various types of battery operated lights (mostly from the Dollar Tree) and they've got these round LED lights that work pretty good. (I test each one out in the pitch dark to see how well it works). My question is, what can I put over the lense (safely) for a colored effect? I was thinking about some sort of colored transparent sheet, but I don't even know where to get that. Man, I'm such a newbie. Somebody please help me. Thanks in advance!

Gel sheets look great. Thought you might like to see these site for making your own lilghts. I'm going to try making some this year.

    LED Spots

With the LED you can buy whatever color you want and don't have to worry about anything.

You can make some dirt cheap gels with colored subject dividers that go into school binders. They come in muti-packs that have every color of the rainbow for a couple of bucks.

I have some that we got for the kids a few weeks ago, and I held a blue one over a flashlight in the dark garage and it worked perfectly. You can even experiment with combining colors or using multiple layers of the same color.

They also have the same thing in smaller index card sized sheets....

Thanks Rookie - we've still got a bunch of the back to school crap in all our stores so I'll grab some of them and test them out. Sounds like the easiest solution for me (as I have no skills/or tools to speak of) and cheap, so thanks!

I'm new to lighting as well, so please forgive my ignorance, BUT...
I'm going to need 1, yes, 1 floodlight to light a very small cemetery scene outside. I have NO idea what type of flood to buy, and what type of socket/connector I need! Also, would those colored subject dividers work over a floodlight, or would they melt? Thanks in advance for your help!

The floodlights I've used have been halogen, I think. They get really hot and I think would melt the index dividers. I think there are other kinds of flood bulbs other than halogen. I'm pretty much a newbie too.

The stake flood holders we use are kind of cheap, we got them at Target. I'd like to get some better made ones this year. The screw snapped on the one we have and I can't seem to get it at a very good angle, the rest of the screw doesn't seem to want to stay tight enough and the stake falls over.
    13 is my lucky number

Menards has the stake flood light holders as well back in their lighting dept. At our local one it's by the landscape lighting.

Last year to direct the light a bit and hide it some I used the plastic pots that you get your perenial plants in. Worked pretty slick. Just make sure the bulb doesn't touch the pot.

I'm making a bunch of these: Faux Rocks - Paper mache' to hide my lights as well as speakers this year. I think I can attach the gels to the opening to keep them away from the heat of the light.
