I'm looking to make a clear cage (think "13 Ghosts") with etchings, I really only need the front panel to be clear. The panel will be 4' wide x 8' tall, and the cheapest Plexi I can find that will be supportive at that size and can take a Dremel is $300/sheet. I need 3 sheets, so this is out of my budget. Has anyone done something similar with an alternative? I have some panes of glass that size for free, but I don't want the liability of using glass (it'll be a public haunt). Thanks!

What about a clear frame and some clear shrink film? The knid you can buy at the hardwarestore for your doors and windows and use a hair dryer to shrink it tight.

$300/sheet seems high. What thickness are you looking for?

I haven't bought plexiglass in awhile but I remeber 1/8" thick being about $100 for a 4x8 sheet.

I agree with the weather proofing film that you shrink with a hair dryer, I have heard that works for peppers ghosts as well.

Another thing you could do is cover the free glass panels with film so that if they break they don't shatter.

I just checked on shatterproof film and it is around $160 for a 4x10 sheet.

Had you considered using thinner plastic and using rods to add strength in the corners?

I was thinking of something more like this:

Gila 3 Ft. x 15 Ft. Heat Control Light Window Film - LEG361 at The Home Depot

at least in my neck of the woods it doesn't need to be earthquake proof!
