I just built my FCG. Everything works great, but I can't find blueing for the cheesecloth. I'm old enough to remember mom using it back in the 50's, but durned if I can find it now. Any suggestions? I've been to all the laundry sections in all the stores. All I can find is a RIT fabric whitener. Is it the same as blueing?

Put it in a lingerie bag and wash it in liquid detergent with the rest of the whites. Or just soak it then rinse a little. I've found it works just as well under UV light. But to answer your question, yes, Rit whitener is the same as blueing.

I think I got my blueing at Save Mart.

Just at Krogers and saw it on the shelf with the rest of the laundry aids.
The bottle looked like this: Mrs. Stewart's Bluing: Instructions
You can also use detergent (don't rinse) or rit whitener. I'm trying an experiment with Woolite, as I read that it's supposed to glow a greenish blue.
Or get some flourescent paint and soak it in that.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

I have used the RIT whitener on my FCG for years and it works great for me.

Here is a picture of my Serra. She is 4 years old and I have never used any kind of whitener on her at all. As you can see from the pic she lights up very nicely. Just my opinion that on a FCG cheese cloth alone works just fine.
I also run a fog machine into her crypt so it builds up a little there and then floats out to the cemetary. Looks pretty cool.

I did a test using Rit and regular laundry powder and there was NO difference in the effect. Just soak in a detergent/warm water mixture, squeeze out the excess, and let it dry.
I did this test with little squares of gauze, and the untreated gauze was completely dead under a blacklight. I did this in the dark with only the blacklight on, and it was fun to watch the gauze go from invisable to bright blue just by dipping it in the mixture..........(MAN, I need more hobbies)

My bad.....My wife did soak the cloth in a detergent. She said just use anything that has phosphate in it and it will work.
