    Hi all,
I'm almost finished with the animated "Buried Alive" coffin. The lid is powered by a wiper motor and controlled by a custom circuit that opens the lid, pauses the motor, and closes the lid. I'm going to put a latex groundbreaker in the coffin and attach his arm to the lid, making it look like he's pushing it open. Here's a short video of the coffin in action:

Great prop....can't wait to see the finished product...

What are you going to use as a trigger?

how difficult and expensive is the custom circuit to build?

I have a spare wiper motor, with nothing to do...

Thanks, Berkisho! I'm using a Quorum PIR as the trigger. I'd say the circuit is moderately difficult to build and cost of parts is around $20, depending on where you buy them. Some custom attachments for the motor are required, like the reflector for the opto-sensor, and a modified wiring harness for attaching an ice-cube relay to the motor. I'll have pics up early next week showing the linkage and circuit board locations. This prop also has a custom MP3 player controller so that a scream can be played when the lid opens. I'm going to recycle an old latex groundbreaker into the coffin with his arm attached to the lid, making it appear that he's pushing it open. More pics to come.

I have spare wiper motor too, please share the schematic and parts list for your custom circuit. I really need a groundbreaker in my graveyard. Can't wait to see the finished prop.

Here's a link to the schematic. It doesn't display properly but if you click on "Show full-size image" it'll open. The parts list is in the same album.

I installed a latex groundbreaker into the coffin last night. I need to improve the lighting - he's hard to see in the dark, but here's pretty much what the TOTs will get:

WHere did you buy the Quorum PIR? I bought some from Electronic Gold Mine:

SALE! Quorum A-160 Passive Infrared Detector-The Electronic Goldmine

I am having issues getting them to work - I built the circuit in the directions - the only thing I added was a 9V wall wart instead of the battery - I am starting to think that may be my problem (It may need a 7809 regulator) - but I haven't had time to investigate it.
