I'm finally starting one of my projects for the year this week. I am making a coffin ice chest. It is actually going to have 2 ice chests in it one for mixed drink ice and one for beer. I will need to make my own coolers so they can be custom fit to the coffin. That is where I need the help. I would like any input ya'll have about the best way to do this.
I'm thinking that I could make a shape with chicken wire and put on a layer of fiberglass. After that layer dries put in some wood dowels to create an air pocket and chicken wire it out and put in the interior layer of fiberglass. After that dries fill the air gap with great stuff foam for insulation.
Waht do ya'll think? Would that work? Any easier ways?
    Thanks

I bet that would work. Here's how I'd approach it.

I'd build a toe pincher style coffin, or something along those lines. Then I'd line the interior with the blue/pink isulation foam. I'd use liquid nails to glue each of the foam pieces together, then caulk the joints with a good sealer. For added precaution, you could first line the interior of the coffin with black plastic, then put in the foam. That way if the foam doesn't hold the water in, the plastic will.

Along the same idea of the black plastic, h'bout a pond liner? Put the liner in the coffin, fill it with water so it forces the liner to conform to the coffin shape. Then using strips of wood, secure the top end of the pond liner to the coffin, and then trim away any of the extra pond liner.

You won't have a drain spout. But the next day, you could easily use a hose to siphon out the melted ice into the back yard.

Whatever you do, post your finished project. I'd love to see what you ended up with.

Its a neat idea.Maybe a drain hole at the base and display it so top end is slightly higher then base.So water drips out.

went and bought all the wood needed. And of course, as I explained to my lovely wife, I need something to cut it accurately. I would absolutely HAVE TO HAVE...hehe... a new Makita miter saw..Woo Hoo

See now i would think you would need the table saw & the miter saw to make the angle cuts on the length as well as the other shorter angled cuts.
