I decided to try my hand at making an Obelisk for our graveyard this year and I began today. Here's my progress so far...
Wish me luck!

You've inspired me to start one tonight!
I got some cheapy foamboard from Dollar Tree, and making a smaller version - probably a 3 footer. Should fit well in my tiny yard, tho!

Let us know how you will anchor it to the ground. I have one mounted on a styrofoam cooler that Omaha Steaks came in(if you know what I'm talking about)....anyway...it is hollow so the PVC/rebar thing doesn't work well.

TNBrad, it looks like you used the same plans that I am. Did you have the same problem with the keystone angles? The guy's plans said to cut it at approx 35 degrees but it turned out to need a 45 degree angle.
Deadna, since the base is separate from the top, you simply place a brick in it and it's good to go

Yes you are right I did have some problems with his measurements. I also wanted the top to stick up a little more proudly. I use a cone trick.
I took a piece of paper and made a cone the as I help it in place I squared to each coroner and then used that to start my shape with. I mostly use a hot needle tool to trim the shapes to fit as I held them in place and pulled the needle between them. I went faster as I got the hang of it. But the key to mine was that I coated them after to cover up anything that would stand out as an error. I'll post pics and a how Monday I, can't get the pictures to show up from home the inset picture Icon wont work, (maybe dial up). If I knew the [IMAG] [/Img] then I would just type it in.

I'm completely winging it.
I saw the same plans as what you are using, but he's a bit too "perfect" for how I work.
I'm using .25" foam boards I got at the Dollar Tree, and it's actually working quite well.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

Some progress...I haven't added the bottom portion of the base yet though.
