I'm ready to get my air compressor and I wanted to make sure this would be a good fit. It's on sale at Harbor Freight for $99, regularly $139.

    Here is the link:

Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

Here's what it said at Harbor Freight:
Affordable and portable air supply for powering nailers, general shop clean-up, airing tires and inflating sports equipment.
    • 2 horsepower motor (rated)
    • 115 PSI maximum
    • Air delivery: 5 SCFM @ 90 PSI; 6 SCFM @ 40 PSI
    • 8 gallon tank capacity
    • Oil lubrication
    120V, 60 Hz, 3360 RPM;

I will be using it to power a MIB with a double-acting cylinder. Next year I hope to add a second prop and that should be it. I would like to have the compressor run a max 5 times on Halloween night powering 2 props.

Is this a good compressor for what I'm looking for?
Thanks for your help in advance

I would buy one from a store like Sears, Home Depot, or Lowes.
That way if you any problems you can just take it back. JMHO.

There's a Harbor Freight in my town though. Is Sears a better option?

    Ahhh....The old Harbor Freight debate.

I really don't know why people knock Harbor Freight. I have bought from them many times and never had a problem!! I bought a miter saw, chop saw, angle grinder, drill press, dremel type tool, plus tons of hand tools. I even bought a Welder (that I ended up returning back cause I realized I bought the wrong kind).

They have the same return policy as everyone else and you can even get extended warranties.

Again...There is nothing wrong with harbor freight.

Alot of people get suckered into the whole brand name thing. Do your research, look at the product, then decide. I am living proof that you can get a good deal and love it!

my compressor came from HF and i love it, works great. that looks like it will be perfect, cylinders don't use much air any way so that should work great with a bunch of them. also powers nail guns the small ones are a haunters best friend

I bought one of those (exact same model) last year as a quick fix for some props. It worked for about two hours on a simple pop-up prop when it froze up and died. I used the recommended oil (bought it from Harbor Freight too) and followed all the instructions. I found out later that a few guys at work bought the same deal and had problems. I found a great deal at Pep boys on a Coleman 27 gal for $129, it's been running hard for over a year now. I'd recommend going with name brand equipment from a reputable dealer.

Thanks everyone. I didn't realize that Harbor Freight has friends and enemies I was thinking that for $100 it's a good first start but with the some of the warnings, I went and looked at what Sears has. TNBrad, they are out of stock of the one you are talking about. I did find a similar version to the one at Harbor Freight. It's a Craftsman so I am to conclude it's better made? The reviews were positive about it. What do you all think? They want $169 for it.

Craftsman 1 hp 7 gal. Portable Air Compressor - Model 16639 at Sears.com

Craftsman 1 hp 7 gal. Portable Air Compressor

2.4 SCFM @ 90 PSI 3.7 @ 40 (125 max). ASME certified horizontal tank. Easy handling and maneuverability. Cast iron pump cylinder. Direct drive oil lubricated pump. ASME approved safety valve.

It looks good but make sure you listen to it running or check the noise level in the specs, some compressors are very loud and can spoil the haunt. Mine came with a nice muffler.
