Hey there.
I am looking for some suggestions or ideas on creating a loud noise by use of object(s) that are hand held.
I will typically hide in the bushes and try to blend in with our other grim reapers during the raid of tick-or-treaters and scare those which can handle it.
I love when the parents are all "It's ok Jimmy, nothing in here is real, they are all just statues" and then I scare the hell out of the parent(s) as the [younger] kid is ahead of them. haha!
Last year I had the idea to put screws in a peanut can and shake it while lunging toward people inorder to create a dramatic effect. This year I am looking for something maybe with a louder noise generation than just screws moving on metal.
I've given up on growling and yelling after 2 years ago screwing up my uvula due to excessive soreness (It still is screwed up, lol)
So hopefully you all can help me generate some ideas to test out and compare to the screws in the peanut can.
I was thinking maybe something that can bang or make a sharp brief loud noise, and can be small enough to hide in the overlay of fabric from my robe.
I currently cant think of anything so suggestions are very welcome.
Thanks.

Hmm, yea that could be good.
Although I think that might be a little overkill, I don't want trick-or-treaters to **** their pants now, nor do I want neighbors getting pissed. The music will be loud enough for them haha.
Plus I want it to sound kind of "odd" and not like some sporting event, after all we do probably have one of the scariest damn houses around Charlotte haha.
I wonder if there is a way perhaps to 'tone down' the airhorn or change the effect that it creates to create more of a scary effect.
I was thinking about the chainsaw (w/o the chair of course) but my parents think that is a little too much, and wont let me.
Maybe a drill would work... (although my dad might get pissed)
Another idea I just thought of it to perhaps use a peice of wood nailed to 4 support beams and use a hammer to bang against it
(Or maybe a cap gun...)
Keep the suggestions coming =]

Yea that would be really kool, although my parents get a little too concerned for the "smaller children"
Hell, the only small children that come up to our house are those whom want to fight every damn thing there whether it is real or not. Although typically it is "NO Mommy, NOT that HOUSE!!!!")
Usually the graveyard w/spots, fog machines, strobes, music, and grim reapers (w/ 1 or more of them being real) are enough to cause a sensory overload as it is, for some.
Its great though when you scare the females because sometimes the candy goes flying in the air =]

I know exactly what you need...more cowbell!

YouTube - Cowbell-The original full skit on snl
Seriously, I think the leaf blower sounds about right. I don't think the hammer and boards would be very effective, handy, etc. And the cap gun may come off sounding pretty lame. Good luck with the scares any way you go!

Perhaps you can make a homemade slapstick. Basically, it's a long board with another board spring hinged to the back. The spring hinge keeps the two boards together until you swing it. Then the boards will pull apart and come back together with a loud crack. Perhaps you can fashion it in a shape as a cricket bat (ala Shaun of the Dead), a large board with a nail, a sword or some other devious device.
