Im trying to set up a mad scientist lab, I have several fish tanks that Id like to put glow water in (highlighter method) anyway my question is how long will it glow? Can I go ahead and set up the tank solution now or do I have to wait til Halloween? The biggest one is a 55 gallon tank and the other 2 are 10 gallon (I think), it'll take a while to fill them up so Id like to get it done early but I dont want to do it too early and then have to do it all over again. Any thoughts on it?? Oh also, I have a 5 ft flourescent black light with double bulbs hanging from the ceiling.. will that be enough to make the water glow brightly or should I buy another black light bulb to put in the tanks light fixture?? Can you put a black light in a tank fixture?? Id love to hear your thoughts or opinions![]()

GDfreak is right. I have had a bottle of highlighter water for 3 years and it's still glowing as bright as ever.
Seems to me you will need alot of highlighers for that much water. If you can find some cheap highlighters at a dollar store, then I would suggest seeing how many highlighters it takes to get the 10 gallon glowing to your liking.
Once you get the 10 gallon going you will know how many highlighters you will need to buy for the 55 gallon tank.

Have you seen a bottle of Mister Clean?....that stuff pretty much glows without a blacklite!
We were trying it under a blacklite a couple of days ago and it looked awesome...just wish it could be sprayed on things and get the same results, but it won't do it. I buy mine for a buck per bottle at Dollar General. I don't know how well it glows deluted in water tho'

Dang it, I didnt concider that the highlighter might stain, thanks for the heads up. The smaller tanks and bottles it wouldnt matter much but Id hate to ruin the big tank. I like the Mr Clean idea, does it foam up? I was planning to use those airator (sp) things to make bubbles in the water but if I use a solution that foams Im sure I'll have a big mess LOL what about diluted GID paint?? would that stain?

i also used waterproof aquariume leds to make some of the lab props like the bubbling thank , the brain tank , and head tank.....
go to my photobucket album you'll see some lab props made with bubble stones for aquariums , leds , etc....it was really easy to do too

NewbieHaunter...I don't know if Mr Clean foams or not...never really paid attention.
If you are putting things in a glass enclosure wouldn't it all wash off easily and not stain?

You might consider the Glow Bubbles Solution...I bought these last year for my bubble machine...they work pretty well are non-toxic and wont stain...however they are expensive...

How about a water tracer. Don't need much and a small container would last you for years. Read about it here; Fluorescent Tracers by Risk Reactor! .Not sure if it will stain but it won't foam up.
