Has anyone made one of these or do you know how? Since we're on a corner lot, I'm kind of splitting the yard into sections and I want to do "Camp Crystal Lake" in the front of the yard with a false campfire.
Cheesy, I know, but yet classic for a beginner like me
I know it can't be that hard, red light, wood, but how do you get the fabric flames to work?
Thanks!![]()

I did a fire ring for my witch's cauldron.
I formed a ring with white stones that we had extra from our flower bed border (any stones would work - but these showed up well in the dark).
Used about three pieces of split wood from our wood pile.
One string of flicker lights (string of lights with about 10 bulbs (C7s, clear, flickering).
I arranged the wood and the flicker lights so that the bulbs were distributed under and around the wood, but not visible unless you were standing right over the wood pile.
It looked FANTASTIC. Everyone that saw it thought it was a real fire.
I never liked the fabric/fan "fire" props because they tend to look pretty fake, and definitely not good if someone is with a few feet of them.

I ran a fog machine through the cauldron, with some small holes at the bottom of the cauldron so the fog would drift out and look like smoke rising. You could probably rig up a small black hose or pipe that ran into your fire ring to simulate the smoke effect. (or not, the flicker and wood really worked without the fog)I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

We used a kettle silk flame and it look okay with some logs around it. I do like Frankies girl fire though. That looks really nice. Maybe next time. I do have a string of the flickering lights that I bought at Stats last year.

Frankie's girl campfire looks very real. I may have to do that to improve mine.
I had bought 6 strings of flicker lights and attached each light (they have clips) to a ring of twigs. Looked pretty good. Wasn't a raging fire but gave a good enough effect:

The way to get a real looking fire with the flicker lights is to make sure the actual bulbs aren't visible, the reflected light on the wood pile and resulting glow and flicker is what makes it look real. The minute you have a bulb showing, it's pretty obvious.
It took me longer to arrange the bulbs than it did to set up the fire ring, but it was worth the fussing.
