The red is from the flicker lights - the filaments are red/orange and do the jumpy flicker effect.
These sort of look like the bulbs in the strands you can buy around Halloween:

It really is a simple set up other than arranging the bulbs in the wood stack - and that's not really that hard. I think I just lucked out with this effect being so realistic looking.

But that means it's easy enough for anybody if I could do it.

I'm messing with a circular fan with silk fabric zip tied to the outer perimiter of the round wire fan housing. Preliminary tests look real good. When I put a light in it I'll post s vid. It's rather large and when done people could theroetically walk all the way around it and still have it look like flames. Even close up the flames look good as the fan is very powerful and the fabric whips like crazy.

I'm trying to find a way to make a fake fire, but for the top of my columns...about 5 inches big though.

Here's a nice tutorial I found on a full size campfire:

Scary terry has a nice how to he did with flaming buckys. I'm sure the idea can be converted to what your looking for. He also has a couple of links to other sites for smaller flames.

THAT is an OUTSTANDING find!!! I love those simple, cheap, fast, great effect, home-built props!! I can already think of two different place in my haunt to use this.

Hmmmmmmm... How can I work this into my Hillbilly theme? Skels sitting around the fire, drinking moonshine? Or perhaps sitting around a fire roasting some human parts on a spit? Which would you prefer?
