Finally found what I've always looked for...a way to make a really loud cannon. I've made air cannons and used computer speakers but this is what I've really wanted for many years. My son got a book entitled "Backyard Ballistics" and we made some of the projects in the book, this being one of them and it's awesome. Sorry, I won't post directions because I don't want anyone doing something wrong and blaming me for it. If you're a real pirate fan and want a real cannon for you haunt, this is the one. I slid a black pvc pipe that I use for a cannon over the barrel and it was even louder and had more bass. Anyway.....FIRE!!

Very cool! Where did you get the calcium chloride...is it something you can get at a hardware store?

    Thanks

It's called calcium carbide and it's sold on ebay as "Bangsite". They have a website too full of cannon stuff. Think it's called Big Bang Cannons.

Nice job. I've made a few of these.

    covered in an earlier post:

I build one last year for a friend (Civil War style) entirely out of ABS (black pipe)
it looked authentic and the effect was perfect, smoke and all.

Here are some plans for a nice pirate one:

Any regulations on this? I live in New York and would hate to have the State Troopers arresting the only pirate in town...lol

    Thanks in advance

Hi Dennis. I live in NY too and I don't know if their are any regulations against it. I live on a cul-de-sac and have great neighbors. The day we made it several came over to watch...they loved it and can't wait for Halloween. Calcium carbide is not a regulated material as far as I know and it seems benign until you mix it with water, thats when it forms acetylene gas. Acetlene is a highly flammable gas as you know. Sorry can't answer your question. Check youtube for a lot more video's.

Thanks...I built a big cannon this month to use with my fog machine and compressor. THought this would make a nice little cannon to mount to the railing for added effect. I'll have to do some more checking...I live in a small town...last thing I need is the troopers showing up in their costumes...lol

    Thanks again
