If you've seen any of my previous threads you can see that I am doing a pirate haunt this year. I wanted to try and make a "Pirata Codex"for my haunt. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a how-to for a big book. Right now it doesn't matter whether it is functioning or not.

There is a great how to on the extra disk of the Pirates 3 movie disk 2. with all the details and extras. I'll try to save some pictures from the disc if you would like.

Avast mini-me! I've got tha' same project in th' werks too mate.. Tia Dalma an I' did search fer large books bu' nothin' big enough was found.. So I'll be makin one. I'll be using thin plywood fer the books jacket, covered in leather (get from th' Tandy Leather store).. or ye can use vinyl from Micheals, 'mate, wit' couple leather straps and some sort o' lock.. th' paper pages ken be newspaper stacked, glued an' cut with saw/carpet knife, an glued to th' board edges. 'bout a weeks worth o' newspapers be jus' tall enough, 4" or so, an' 'bout 18" x 24" page size is wot I'm makin'. 'ad'nt decided if it'll be open, ta any pages, or jus' on a stand somewheres. Opened up, th' pages exposed ken be tea-stained parchment (aged) glued atop th' newspaper stack on each side, or if closed, styrofoam detailed ta look like edges o' a book.

If functionality does not matter then you may want to look for a book shaped box. I think Pier 1 had some made from wood the last time I was there, and Michaels should have one made of paper mache that you can paint.

Aye, could make one out o' a large yard ornament-type box.. Tia Dalma's got a couple plastic ginger-bread men that go in the yard at Chrsitmas, th' box be 2'x3', 'jus' paint/render th' ends ta look like pages, leather/vinyl o'er th' top/bottom, an' cloth o'er th' spine..
