I know that this has been mentioned in multitudes of different threads, but instead of searching through all of them, yes I'm very lazy, I decided to ask what everyone is using for the treasure in their treasure chests. I had an idea today of maybe trying to make the "copper bones" and the spanish doubloon from the Goonies? Polymer clay? Idk, what do you guys think?

What are you using the chest for? Just a prop? Does anyone get to rummage through it? Touch it? Display only? Have you made the chest already?
To save on 'stuff', I'd put a shelf inside of it 1/4 of the way from the top, so you can pile stuff on without needing a lot of filler.

Lol, I used a shelf too for my treasure chest. This year I'm going to augment the gold piles by making mounds of gold with gold foil spandex with 5000+ gold coins glued to it.

Hit up goodwill, they always have those decorative brass plates and other brass item, even some crystal. Then check out the dollar store the sell bags of colored "rocks" which are just glass sometimes they have plastic coins if your lucky their gold if not paint them with a spray can...try Oriential trading company for some beads and other things. And last but not least Yard Sales...You can always jaz up something with a hot glue gun...look at Suzeee pic how she glued some colored flat marbles to the plate..

Colored marbles/stones at Michaels or Wal Mart.
Micheals have some black ones that look awesome.
I also bought some plastic colored gems and coins on ebay.
Party City had gold and silver beads and coins.

neojacksparrow we used ghostess's idea of spray painting poker chips gold for our gold coins. I bought most of them at thrift stores for $1-$2 a set.
Thanks noahbody, it's not the first time i've been told that.
I also used christmas garlands (gold beads, pearl beads, jeweled ).
